For children undergoing treatment, school can offer a familiar and reassuring routine, as well as a feeling of being in step with the outside world. School gives children a chance to keep a sense of identity and normalcy. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking an experienced school leader to serve as the head of our in-house campus school. The St. Jude School Program is entering an exciting period of change with an upcoming expansion of space and programming. To be a successful candidate for this position, you should be a creative thinker and a driven leader. We are looking for someone who understands that every child is unique, and that learning experiences must be tailored to each child’s developmental, learning, and medical needs. We believe that children learn by doing, and we are seeking a leader to provide administrative oversight and a strategic vision to accelerate progress for our school program as we move into our uniquely designed space while promoting collaboration and creativity.

Responsibilities

The Head of the School at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital provides a holistic approach to child development by balancing school leadership responsibilities and direct patient care services in the form of evaluation of student needs and school advocacy services. The Head of the School Program provides supervision of the School Principal and the Manager of School Liaison Services and reports directly to the Chief of Psychosocial Services.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Maintenance of accreditation as a non-public school
  • Interfacing with executives, stakeholders, and donors as a representative of the St. Jude School
  • Promoting principles of diversity and inclusion among school staff and students
  • Developing a strategic plan for the School Program
  • Synthesizing data to identify opportunities for program development and quality improvement initiatives
  • Collaborating with outside departments to create and sustain interdepartmental programming to support student learning and development
  • Ensuring coordinated planning of academic requirements/needs of our PK-12 learners in conjunction with their community schools to aid in the transition of students upon discharge.

Minimum Education

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Teaching, Curriculum and Instruction, or Library Science is required.
  • Doctoral degree in Education is preferred.

Minimum Experience

  • Five years experience as a school administrator is required.
  • Special education experience or experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
  • 5 years teaching experience preferred
  • Experience on an executive leadership team preferred

Required Credentials

  • None

Other Credentials

  • State Professional Teaching License – Obtain TN licensure within 6 months of employment preferred
  • Instructional Leadership License/Principal Certification preferred
