2020-21 Executive Board Elections

The HEAL Association relies upon the involvement of its members to contribute to the success and growth of our organization and the pursuit of our mission.  We appreciate the dedication and commitment of those who volunteer to lead our organization.
The Nominating Committee is proud to present the following candidates for the Executive Board.

Candidates and Bios

TREASURER

  • Courtney Emery: Courtney Emery, M.Ed, NBCT is the School Intervention Specialist in the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology Oncology Clinic in Lexington, KY.  Courtney’s educational background includes a BA in Elementary Education and Special Education. Additionally, she earned a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership and is certified by The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.  She currently serves as the Treasurer of HEAL. She is passionate about helping children reach their fullest potential in and out of the classroom and it would be her honor to continue to serve on the executive board of an organization that shares this passion.  

 

VICE PRESIDENT

  • Mindy Elliott: Mindy Elliott developed the academic programming for Veritas Collaborative, a specialty healthcare system for the treatment of eating disorders with locations in NC, GA and VA. She currently serves as the Director of Education and Quality Programming for Veritas and is Vice President of HEAL. Her first experience with the professional organization was in 2014, when she assisted with the AECMN/APHOES joint national conference at Duke Children’s Hospital in Durham. Mindy was the 2017-18 Vice President for AECMN and was one of the four board members from AECMN and APHOES to engage in discussions on the eventual merger into the current organization, HEAL. Mindy is leading HEAL’s collaborative efforts in forming the international journal, Continuity in Education; she serves as Associate Editor for the journal.

 

  • Jennifer Lindwall: Jennifer Lindwall, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist at Children’s Hospital Colorado. She is passionate about working with youth with significant health needs to promote positive mental health, coping, quality of life, and academic engagement. Dr. Lindwall is currently the lead psychologist at a unique hospital-based school program, working with a multidisciplinary team to create a supportive environment for fostering positive engagement to school and academic success for youth with chronic health issues. In 2019, she began as a HEAL Member at Large, and she would be honored to serve as Vice President on the HEAL Executive Board.

SECRETARY

  • Emily Frank: Emily Frank has always had a passion for working with children and their families. She has been lucky enough to do this in different settings throughout the years. Emily became a teacher in 2012 and taught Pre-K through 2nd grade for 6 years before transitioning to Children’s Hospital Colorado. She now works in the Rehabilitation department. Through her current role, she is supporting children with brain injuries. She has helped with the inpatient classroom as well as the Acquired Brain Injury clinic. She also helped pilot the Bridge Program for students returning to school. Emily loves to encourage students in any way possible. 

COMMUNICATION/MEDIA COORDINATOR

  • Jodi Krause: Jodi Krause has been with Children’s Hospital Colorado for 10 years beginning as a Clinical Learning Specialist in the Learning Services Department. She expanded her role by becoming an inpatient teacher supporting all major medical units, opened the first classroom on a medical unit at CHCO, and recently transitioned into the Brain Injury Educational Coordinator role. She joined AECMN and APHOES attending her first conference in 2017. She was so excited to find a tribe in the hospital teaching community and went full speed ahead and hosted the 2018 HEAL conference in Aurora, Colorado.  Jodi has served on the HEAL board as Communications/Media Coordinator this past year. 

   

MEMBER AT LARGE

  • Michelle Harvey: Michelle Harvey has been an educator for over 23 years who began her career teaching in the public and private school settings before transitioning to her role as an Educational Specialist at Children’s Health 14 years ago. During her years of service, she has worked hospital wide as a passionate advocate for the educational needs of medically complex pediatric patients. She has developed innovative and unique programming solutions that ensure patients have equal opportunities and access to educational services. Her commitment to teamwork and community outreach led to successful collaborations and partnerships that benefit patients with programming like VGo robotic technology, and STEM education kits specially designed for use in the hospital setting. Michelle has been a member of both the APHOES and AECMN organizations for a collective 10 years. She participated in both the APHOES research committee and the joint APHOES/ AECMN legislative action committee. In 2019, Michelle began serving as a Member At Large on the HEAL Executive Board.

 

  • Kyle Landry: Kyle Landry graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with a BS in Early Childhood Education and MEd in Cultural Foundations of Education. Landry’s early career as a teacher in Milwaukee Public Schools uncovered a passion for advocating for students with chronic/complex health needs. Since 2015 Landry has served as the School Intervention Program Manager at Children’s Wisconsin, leading a team of experienced hospital-based educators specially-trained in complex medical conditions. Landry’s desire to join the Board of the HEAL Association is rooted deeply in her belief that every child should have equal access to quality education.

 

  • Benjamin White:  Benjamin White is a Hospital Teacher/Educational Liaison in an acute inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit at The Unity Center for Behavioral Health in Portland, Oregon. He’s been involved with HEAL since he discovered and attended his first AECMN/APHOES conference in 2014, where he finally found his tribe! Ben was surrounded by vibrant educators working in non-typical settings driven by curiosity and improvement in an emerging field – he was home. Ben served as a Member At Large on the 2019-20 HEAL Executive Board.
